About this directory

We built this directory to support third party administrators. It helps plan sponsors find TPAs that fit their plan, and it gives every health plan TPA in the United States a free, accurate profile.

Who it is for

It is for people who run a health plan and want to hand off claims administration: self-funded employers, health shares, MEWAs and associations, union funds, public entities and smaller administrators. Filter the 135 listings by the states, services and plan types you need, then contact the TPAs directly. We are not part of that conversation.

A company is listed if it administers health benefit claims (medical, dental, vision or pharmacy) for plan sponsors. Administrators owned by insurance carriers are included. Companies that only handle workers' compensation, retirement plans, COBRA or FSAs are not.

How listings are compiled

We build each listing from public sources: company websites, state insurance department records and industry directories. Every fact on a profile carries a small number that links to the page it came from, with the date we read that page. When we cannot find a fact, we leave it out and say it is not listed yet, rather than guess.

State license records are in for 17 states so far: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas. For each, we read the state's list of licensed or registered TPAs, from its insurance department or the NAIC State Based Systems lookup, most recently on . The other states are still being added. See every state.

A license is not the company saying it serves a state, so profiles keep the two apart. "Service area" is where the company says it works, from its own website or from what it tells us. "Licensed in" comes only from state records.

When sources disagree, the company's own website wins for headquarters and phone, and state records are the source for licenses. Listings are rechecked when a company asks and during periodic research passes. Each profile shows the date it was last checked.

What the labels mean

  • Confirmed by the company. Someone at the company reviewed the listing and told us it is accurate. The profile shows the date they confirmed it.
  • Not yet confirmed. The listing was compiled from public sources and the company has not reviewed it yet. The profile says "Compiled from public sources. Not yet confirmed by the company."
  • Service area. Where the company says it works. "National" means it says it serves every state.
  • Licensed in. States whose insurance records list the company as a licensed or registered TPA.
  • Independent (not owned by a carrier). Not owned by an insurance carrier, a health system or a private equity firm, as far as public sources show. It may still have a parent company, such as a benefits firm.

How a listing gets confirmed

  1. Compiled from public sources

We build the listing from company websites, state license records and industry directories. Every fact names its source.

  2. The company reviews it

Someone at the company checks the listing and sends a correction or a confirmation through the update form.

  3. Confirmed by the company

We apply the change by hand. The profile then shows the date the company confirmed it.

Updating, confirming or removing a listing

If you work at a listed TPA, use the update form. Every profile has an "Update this listing" button that opens the form for that company. It is free and there is no account to create. You can:

  • correct information that is wrong,
  • add information that is missing,
  • confirm that your listing is accurate, or
  • remove your listing.

A person reviews every request and applies the change by hand, usually within a few business days. We may reply to check a detail or to confirm that you work at the company.

Removals need no reason. Once removed, the listing no longer appears anywhere on the site. We keep a record that the company asked to be removed so it is not added back by mistake.

If your company is not listed and should be, use the same form and tell us about it.

No paid placements, rankings or reviews

Listings are free. We do not sell placement, rank TPAs, or publish reviews or ratings. Results are shown A to Z, or with confirmed listings first if you choose that sort. When you filter by services, plan types or group size, TPAs that have not listed those details yet follow the matches in their own group rather than disappearing.
